Finergy Five - 5 Books for Entrepreneurs

Happy Finance Friday everyone!

I hope you have had a productive week. Today we are going to have some fun because it is time for another Finergy Five. This week we are going to look at books. Today I’m going to share five books that I think entrepreneurs should read. These books have a common thread of success.

  1. Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell – I read this book for the first time a few years before opening my own business was even an option. Gladwell takes us on a wonderful journey through the stories of various outliers, aka extremely successful people. Through these stories, Gladwell shapes his theory on what makes certain people an outlier. His writing is a pure joy to read. He pulls you in and fascinates you as he weaves many unrelated but interconnected stories.

  1. Quiet by Susan Cain – as a self-proclaimed and proud introvert, I loved this book. For the first time, I wasn’t being told to talk more or be more aggressive. Instead, the strong qualities of introverts were showcased. Quiet shows how introverts are just as important to society as extroverts. Cain provides some surprising examples of famous introverts who have changed our world. Even if you are an extrovert, it is a great book that helps you understand how different people think, act and behave. As business owners, we interact with many people day to day it is helpful to have an understanding of what makes different people tick.

  1. Grit by Angela Duckworth – Duckworth takes another look at success. Similar to Gladwell’s book, Duckworth deals with what makes certain people successful. She has concluded that successful people have the Grit Factor. Are you gritty? You might be, check out her fascinating theory on success.

  1. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill – This book was originally published back in 1937. Hill wrote this book as a self-help book based on his experience working with some of America’s greatest business men. Hill believed this greatness was achievable by any of us, if only we understood the steps we need to take to get there. His book gives us a systematic guide on how to ‘think and grow rich’. I will caution you, this book was written eighty years ago, there are some parts that feel dated to today’s reader, however, if you can get passed that and it really has some great insights.

  1. The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg – In this book you learn how and why we have certain habits. How we created our habits and understanding how we can change them. As a business owner, a portion of our success lies in our habits. We get up early, we work hard, we don’t give up. Understanding the power of our habits gives us the power to change our lives for the better.

Those are five books that I have enjoyed reading as a person and a business owner. They have helped inspire me to do my best, to focus on my strengths, and to better understand the people around me. What are your favorite business books?

Thanks for Stopping By!
