5 Books for Small Business Summer Reading

Welcome Back!

Now that summer has unofficially begun, I thought we would have some fun with this week’s blog and bring back another installment of the Finergy Five! This week’s Finergy Five will be…

Our Summer Reading List! I don’t know about you, but to me, there is no better way to spend a sunny Saturday or Sunday afternoon than outside reading. This summer I plan to read a few books that I think may help me with running my small business. Reading is a cost-effective way to grow your skills and knowledge.

This summer I plan to read the following books, in no particular order:

1. Smarter, Faster, Better – The Transformation Power of Real Productivity by Charles Duhigg. According to the back cover, this book is going to show us how to get things done. Throughout his book, he will demonstrate why some people get more done through eight key concepts. If this book is like Duhigg prior book The Power of Habits, we are in for a fascinating journey as he weaves us through his theory.

2. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Published in 1936 Carnegie’s book has been helping people communicate to get what they want. As a small business owner interacting with people is critical to our success. From networking to client interaction being able to communicate efficiently is part of everyday interactions.

3. Originals by Adam Grant. According to the description of Originals Grant takes us on a journey looking at how people can champion new ideas and how leaders can fight groupthink. This book looks like it will give some insight on to how to use our own ideas to create a meaningful impact.

4. Good to Great by Jim Collins. In Good to Great Collins reveals the findings of his five-year study that looked at the history of twenty-eight companies that achieved great results. I’m interested to see what Collins findings say about the success of these businesses.

5. Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, Purpose by Tony Hsieh. Tony Hsieh is the CEO of Zappos. His company is known for their unique culture. Tony has said he doesn’t sell shoes, he sells happiness. In this book, Hsieh shares his experiences. I can’t wait to read Hsieh’s methods and points of view on running a company that provides happiness with each order. Client satisfaction is crucial to success. We can all deliver more happiness in our interactions every day.

Those are five books that I’ll be reading this summer. I’m looking forward to spending some time outside reading each book. I can’t wait to see what I’ll learn.

What books will you be reading? Let us know in the comments section!

There is nothing better than a good book. See you Next week!
